Description of Itinerary

The fourth stage starts in Silves and ends in Marmelete, passing through the Monchique mountains.
You can learn more about these sectors of the Via Algarviana here:

Sector 10 - Silves to Monchique
Sector 11 - Monchique to Marmelete

WARNING: On sector 10, between km 21 and 22 approximately, dangerous dogs are roaming free. They are blocking the public path that Via Algarviana follows in this area. The GNR (National Republican Guard) and the City Council of Monchique have already been alerted. We hope the problem will be solved soon and ask all hikers and mountain bikers to be very careful. Thanks to all the people who reported this problem to us.

Although not very extensive, this is one of the most demanding days in physical and technical terms, either in the recommended or the oposite direction, easily proven by the cumulative elevation gain and loss.

The climb to Picota, the second highest point in the Algarve, is a very tough climb. When you reach the top, the rocky agglomerate will force you to carry your bike on your shoulders, one of the biggest challenges of this day.

If you are lucky enough to ride on a day without fog, you will have a panoramic view over the Algarve and part of Alentejo that will reward you for this effort.

USEFUL INFORMATION

The route is fully signposted, but it is advisable to use GPS and download the tracks we provide in the GR13 - Via Algarviana stages for MTB.

Attention: All the information is presented in the recommended direction, from Alcoutim to Cabo de São Vicente. If you decide to travel in the opposite direction, don't forget that you have to reverse the line with the cumulative elevation gain and loss values. The level of difficulty of the sectors can vary depending on the direction in which you make them.
